Why Shimmer & Tulle?

I think it is somewhat symbolic of life.

Shimmer, we need to shimmer and let our lights shine. We need to stand out. Sometimes, as our own unique individuals. And, sometimes, as a collective body. I'd like to let my light shine, to shimmer through all of my actions, handiworks, my words, my home.

Tulle. Even though it is one of the prime fabrics used in bridal dresses, have you ever really looked at it? It's practically netting. Fabric with holes in it! Something that can be transformed into something so beautiful - well, really is very fragile, is material hand-pieced together and is somewhat transparent, even with its many layers.

Isn't this really a picture of us as people?

I think it's amazing how we can see God's hand of creation and transformation in e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.

The girl's name Ellen is pronounced EL-en. It is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "sun ray" or "shining light". Variant of Helen.

I'm a CH-CHAH (Christian Creating Heaven at Home) wife of 5 years, mom to a 2 year old boy and one on the way (in October), entrepreneur and creative spirit to the process of making our house a home. Even with my NYC roots, I've discovered an inherent "love of country" and a desire for the farming and homesteading life. Has a deep innate love for Prince Edward Island and the Anne of Green Gables Books. Enjoys all sorts of crafting, curling up to a great book with hot chocolate in hand, dancing, decorating and cooking great meals.

I currently cloth diaper, make as much homemade food as currently possible (pastas, bread, even peanut butter!), homeschool and aim to eventually have our family live off grid, off the land and on-God. I'm in the process of learning to can (and avoid botulism!) and can't wake to have a gorgeous and full pantry of organized mason jars.

I'm also an entrepreneur and have always had a creative spirit. I design (birdcage) veils and other accessories -- mostly for the hair, but also bowties for the boys, cuffs, fabric rings, bracelets, scarves and more. You can see more at About a Bride and there's also a blog for you to enjoy.

The man's name Damion is mi
pronounced DAY-mee-en. It is of Greek origin. Means "to tame, subdue", though the Greek root is also close to the word for "spirit".

Even if he was born with this need to have bread at every meal, he's always willing to try all things new. A match made in heaven (and actually on the ballroom dance floor), this trait satisfies his wife's need to always give new recipes a try. Yes, you read that right - we met in Boston at a dance studio. I was doing competitive ballroom and he was taking hip-hop.

An amazing work ethic, a father with an unending source of energy to play with his son and a strong desire to welcome and invite God into our home. This man was built with a strong missions heart, a philanthropists' hand and an intensity that doesn't quit.

The sound of his laughter is definitely music to his wife's ears.
